A Little About Me
Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006The following is a speech that I will be giving tonight at an All Candidate’s Debate to be held at Guelph Place. This event is being sponsored by the Guelph Mercury and is being broadcast by Rogers Cable. In case you cannot get there, I have included my 1 minute introductory remarks below for you to read.
There are other ACM’s coming up - one of the best will be held at Victory School on Exhibition Street. It is non partisan and is organised by the Exhibition Park Neighbourhood Association. For further details contact debate organiser Annie O’Donaghue at 836 8162. Alternatively call our office for a complete listing of all the debates that will be held in Guelph.
Hope to see you there, but if not, you will find my speech below.
Phil
Good Evening,
I want to quickly introduce myself:
I am a life long resident of Guelph. I was born in St Josephs Hospital, attended our community schools, earned my Master’s degree in History and Literature at the University of Guelph. I have completed doctoral work in history and philosophy and studied theology.
In my life, I have taught History and Philosophy, been active in the Guelph community and been a rabid fan of this great city and its hockey team the Guelph Storm.
Guelph needs a New Democratic Member of Parliament who will work to bring clean, advanced industry here. Guelph needs an MP small business people can call a friend.
I will advocate for more affordable housing, for improving our national health care system, I will stand up for the University of Guelph and its students.
Guelph needs an MP who knows that our air and our water are precious resources. Guelph needs an MP who cares that ethics in government matter and that the corruption of the Liberals and the narrow vision of the Conservatives must stop.
I have seen Guelph grow from a small town with a small college into a mid sized city with a world class university being its largest employer. The Guelph I love is the Guelph that will be well served by Phil Allt, Member of Parliament.
